Do you ever think to yourself, why does she (or he) do that? Or why am I doing this? My friend, the answer lies within your Enneagram type. My guest, Ashton Whitmoyer-Ober, created Enneagram Ashton after discovering how impactful the Enneagram can be in understanding yourself and others and why we all do the things we do.
Ashton and I discuss the basics of the Enneagram tool and how it helps people strengthen their relationships and become the best versions of themselves.
Highlights from my conversation with Ashton:
- The Enneagram is about your motivations, biggest fears, and desires. It?s your why and how you do things, not what you do. (03:44)
- The nine Enneagram types behaviorally can look very similar. It?s their motivation that sets them apart. (06:52)
- Each Enneagram has a wing. Your wings are the numbers on each side of your primary type. The goal of your wings is to take on and utilize some of those characteristics. (08:35)
- Your main type, your motivation, will not change. What can and will change are your behaviors within your type - healthy, average, and unhealthy behaviors. (12:07)
- Knowing, understanding, and using the awareness of when you?re exhibiting these behaviors allows you to change your situation or behavior accordingly. (13:39)
- Enneagram is to be used as a tool to promote growth and understanding, not to be used as an excuse for poor behavior. (17:52)
- The Enneagram is used to understand yourself and other people. (19:46)
- Enneagram is useful in the workplace as well. It can be very impactful when you better understand your colleagues and what motivates them to be their best selves. (23:34)
